AMPS Celebrates Continued Cultivated Meat Industry Momentum with Latest USDA Greenlight

The Association for Meat, Poultry, and Seafood Innovation (AMPS) congratulates Believer on completing the rigorous U.S. federal regulatory pathway, including the recent USDA label approval and facility Grant of Inspection. Now, Believer cultivated chicken, which will be made in North Carolina, is cleared for sale– the 3rd new product fully cleared in the U.S. in 2025, and the 5th in the U.S. to date. This development marks a pivotal regulatory milestone for the U.S. cultivated meat industry, as an increasing number of products complete rigorous safety assessments and join traditional agricultural producers in bringing meat to market.

Despite the U.S. government shutdown, progress continues across U.S. agencies, demonstrating the resilience of science-based regulation and strong collaboration between innovators and government partners. The FDA and USDA remain global leaders in ensuring that our food systems are safe, resilient, and able to modernize. Cultivated meat products are leading the way and following a new and higher set of standards for novel foods, the highest standards for safety, transparency, and quality in our food system.

The United States continues to set the pace for the global cultivated meat sector—with the most approved products in type and number, most active commercial facilities, and expanding consumer availability—all reinforcing the strength and stability of the American innovation ecosystem.
