AMPS Statement on Believer Meats’ Pre-Market FDA Clearance and Commercial Scale Cultivated Meat Facility

The Association for Meat, Poultry, and Seafood Innovation (AMPS) congratulates Believer on successfully completing the rigorous scientific review leading to a U.S. Food and Drug Administration “No Questions” Letter (NQL). Joining 4 other US cultivated meat and seafood companies, this latest NQL confirms the safety of Believer cultivated chicken, the third cultivated chicken to undergo this extensive safety review. Believer will now proceed through an extensive USDA safety review, which includes label approval and a grant of inspection, holding this cultivated chicken to the same rigorous standards of all other US meat and poultry.

Believer has also completed construction of a state-of-the-art facility in North Carolina, thought to be the world’s largest commercial-scale cultivated meat production site, near another major pilot facility: the Bezos Center for Sustainable Protein at North Carolina State University. Believer Meats will now advance from pilot to commercial-scale manufacturing with a plan to accelerate the rollout of their cultivated poultry, leading to major increases in skilled job creation in the state. AMPS applauds Believer Meats’ dedicated team, its forward-thinking partners, and the FDA’s rigorous scientific oversight, which ensures the highest standards of safety and transparency for this emerging industry. For more information on the cultivated meat industry, visit: ampsinnovation.org.
